About The Position

This position is primarily accountable for Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) Quality Assurance testing in an assigned geographic area as well as testing Portland Cement Concrete (PCC) and soils as required. The Illinois Department of Transportation is seeking to hire Bituminous Mixtures Area Quality Assurance Technicians. Requirements

  • Completion of two years of college in civil engineering technology, pre-engineering, or a job-related technical/science curriculum PLUS thirty months of engineering experience OR six years of engineering experience.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Daily travel within the assigned area; overnight travel may be required.
  • Successful completion of a background screening.
  • Certain provisions of the revolving door restrictions contained in 5 ILCS 430/5-45 apply to this position. As a result, the employee should be aware that if offered non-State employment during state employment or within one year immediately after ending State employment, the employee shall, prior to accepting any such non-State employment offer, notify the Office of the Executive Inspector General for the Agencies of the Illinois Governor (OEIG) or may be subject to a fine.

Responsibilities

  • Performs Quality Assurance testing of Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) mixtures.
  • Performs and reports inspection of Portland Cement Concrete (PCC), soils, aggregates, and other construction materials as needed.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with contractors and other Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) personnel assigned to construction projects.
  • Responsible for proper use, calibration, and maintenance of testing equipment.
  • Responsible for completeness and accuracy of test data, reports, data entry, and other record keeping.
  • Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules.
  • Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
