About The Position

Audubon Texas, in conjunction with Texas Parks and Wildlife, oversees the Bird City Texas program, a community-based certification initiative designed to empower individuals in protecting birds and their habitats within their living, working, and recreational spaces. Currently, 15 cities in Texas have achieved this certification, with aspirations to expand this network. The Bird City Texas intern will participate in a paid summer internship program aimed at enhancing the visibility and effectiveness of the Bird City Texas program. This internship offers a comprehensive blend of administrative and programmatic experiences, with a specific focus on urban bird conservation. Key activities include community outreach, program enhancement via an online portal, and the development of resources and educational materials. This role is situated in Central Texas and is ideal for individuals passionate about environmental education, conservation science, community engagement, and conservation-focused marketing and branding.

Responsibilities

  • Build relationships and solicit feedback from partners to develop Bird City Texas resources such as brochures, handouts, PowerPoints, social media posts, and blogs.
  • Create community connection resources, like newsletter templates, for Bird Cities to share, learn, and connect.
  • Assist with administrative tasks to ensure the effective operation of the Bird City Program.
  • Visit Bird Cities in person to engage with local community leaders, gather photos and story highlights, and compile recommendations for support into a capstone report.
  • Support the planning of a Bird City Gathering, a workshop for existing and potential Bird Cities.
  • Participate in the application review process for new Bird Cities to understand the actions communities take for certification.
