About The Position

Bird Electric, a Black & Veatch company, is a U.S. self-perform electrical construction services provider with a national reach in emergency power restoration. With more than 600 employees, Bird Electric delivers grid solutions and operates in adjacent distributed infrastructure markets. The company also has long-established relationships with fuel producers and energy providers. This role assists in preparation and review of unit price, lump sum, and T&M transmission estimates and in development of takeoffs and conceptual cost analysis.

Requirements

  • Entry-level position.
  • Zero to two years of estimating experience required.
  • All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.

Nice To Haves

  • BS or MS graduate in Construction Management, Electrical Engineering, or related field is preferred, but not required.
  • Field, project, or operations experience in utility transmission construction is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Performs quantity takeoffs from drawings, specifications, and RFP documents.
  • Reviews RFP packages and identifies scope and submittal requirements.
  • Assembles estimate components under direction of the assigned Senior Estimator.
  • Applies unit library items, labor units, and equipment rates as directed.
  • Supports development of clarifications, assumptions, and exclusions.
  • Coordinates with the Proposals department on deliverables and submittal timelines.
  • Maintains organized estimate files and supporting documentation.
  • Participates in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and internal bid reviews.
  • Supports handoff of awarded estimates to project management.
  • Updates and maintains historical cost data.
  • Supports continuous improvement efforts within the estimating department.
  • Individual contributor with no subordinates.
