About The Position

Santiam Hospital is looking for a hands-on Biomedical Technician to keep our essential equipment safe, reliable, and ready to use. In this role, you’ll install, calibrate, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain a wide range of medical devices, lab equipment, and department workstations. You’ll also help support facility operations by troubleshooting electrical systems, repairing mechanical tools, and completing temperature validation studies. By coordinating with vendors, keeping service records up to date, and responding quickly to maintenance needs, you will play a vital role in ensuring regulatory compliance, operational efficiency, and a safe environment for patient care. Requirements

  • Knowledge of principles that relate to the position.
  • Aptitude in verbal and written communication, including ability to communicate with persons in all age groups.
  • Possession of a high school diploma or an equivalent credential.
  • Possession of the Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician credential issued by Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation® (“AAMI”) Certification Institute.
  • Possession of Unarmed Private Security certification issued by Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training.
  • At least ten years of experience in electronic instrument calibration, maintenance, and repair.
  • Possession of United States proof of citizenship or right to work in the United States
  • Possession of a driver license or analogous identification.
  • Willingness to participate in Hospital orientation and educational in-service.

Responsibilities

  • Independently perform calibration, testing, maintenance, and repair on wide range of potentially complicated electronic medical or laboratory equipment or instruments located within Hospital and Hospital grounds (“Facility”).
  • Inspect, install, and validate or qualify new or refurbished medical equipment units.
  • Configure, support, maintain, and repair electronic biomedical equipment, workstations, and printers, and perform indicated software updates for such units.
  • Order parts required for electronic biomedical equipment and remain willing to provide recommendations for purchase of such equipment.
  • Order or obtain other materials, supplies, or equipment required to perform tasks related to position.
  • Ensure that Department equipment units function properly.
  • Troubleshoot electrical switches, outlets, lighting fixtures, circuit breakers, and fuses, and demonstrate familiarity with operation of Facility power generators and automatic transfer switch.
  • Repair mechanical equipment that includes power tools, power mowers, hedge clippers, and other devices typically used by Facilities Department staff.
  • Perform temperature mapping and validation studies on storage incubators, refrigerators, and freezers.
  • When indicated, coordinate own service provision with service provided by equipment vendors, and schedule such vendor service that is to be provided at Facility.
  • Maintain current electronic records that fully documents action taken to inspect, install, validate, qualify, configure, calibrate, test, support, maintain, or repair equipment that lies within own scope of service.
  • Demonstrate knowledge about occupational hazards and implement applicable safety measures.
  • On daily basis, respond to Hospital staff maintenance requests, and provide updates about response status.
  • Competently operate life safety equipment and participate in monthly life safety equipment drills.
  • Use electronic media to communicate and to receive information pertinent to position.
  • During Facility security provision, surveil activity or events that may compromise safety or security of persons or property located within Facility.
  • Perform other duties assigned by Facilities Director.
