About The Position

This one-year apprenticeship is designed to prepare candidates for a long-term career in field service at GE HealthCare, a global medical technology and digital solutions innovator. The role involves responding to service calls to evaluate, diagnose, perform repairs, and conduct planned maintenance on basic biomedical equipment in healthcare environments. This is an onsite, customer-facing service position where the apprentice will serve as the face of GE HealthCare at customer sites, driving customer satisfaction through Service Excellence. The apprenticeship schedule will align with the anticipated availability of a Level 1 position to ensure continuity of employment after program completion.

Requirements

  • AS, BS, MS degree, military education, certificate program, current student with less than 12 months from completion OR High School Diploma/GED with 6 months experience servicing electronic, IT or mechanical equipment.
  • Previous experience OR coursework interpreting schematic diagrams and performing troubleshooting and planned maintenance on basic diagnostic imaging or electronic equipment following current standards, code, and procedures to ensure safe and effective operation of those devices.
  • Must have reliable transportation and a valid driver's license.
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience interpreting schematic diagrams and performing effective repair and planned maintenance on basic biomedical or electronic equipment.
  • Experience in customer facing role(s).
  • Experience interfacing both internal team members and external customers as part of a solution-based service process.
  • Experience diagnosing and repairing mechanical, electromechanical, and/or electronic equipment in the electronic field - resulting in knowledge of electronic digital circuitry and understanding of electronic and electro-mechanical devices.

  • Analytical and communication skills with the ability to communicate technical issues to the customer in an easy-to-understand manner.

Responsibilities

  • Under supervision, evaluate basic customer biomedical equipment issues and implement appropriate repairs.
  • As assigned, perform planned maintenance (PM), safety, and environmental inspections.
  • Maintain effective customer relations and daily communications with customers to ensure resolution and proper follow-up.
  • Implement GEHC/customer facility contracts to support business goals and objectives.
  • Assist more experienced technicians on progressive repairs and resolution.
  • Work as a member of the local team to provide efficient service delivery.
  • Document all repair actions and submit reports/summaries according to schedule.
  • Maintain approved parts inventory.
  • Manage vendor's service delivery processes in compliance with GEHC policies, as instructed.
  • Ensure proper care of spares, tools, and test equipment, and ensure calibration.
  • Enhance and maintain technical knowledge of current standards, codes, and procedures regarding the safe and effective use of medical equipment through formal instruction.
  • Meet Health and Human Services, as well as Environment Health and Safety requirements.
  • Complete all planned Quality and Compliance training within defined deadlines.
  • Identify and report all customer quality or compliance concerns immediately to the Quality Organization.
  • Comply with the GEHC Quality Manual, Quality Management System, Quality Management Policy, Quality Goals, and applicable laws and regulations.
  • Manage schedule, travel, tools, and learning activities with increasing independence over the course of the program while following established processes, safety requirements, and supervision guidelines.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, emotional intelligence, and resilience when working in high-pressure clinical environments, including situations where equipment issues may impact patient care.
