About The Position

The Biomedical Equipment Technician plays a critical role in ensuring the safety, reliability, and optimal performance of medical devices and equipment used in healthcare settings. This position involves the installation, maintenance, calibration, and repair of a wide range of biomedical instruments, directly impacting the quality and safety of patient care. The technician collaborates closely with healthcare professionals to promptly troubleshoot equipment issues, minimizing downtime and supporting uninterrupted clinical operations. Additionally, the role requires meticulous documentation and adherence to regulatory standards to maintain compliance and facilitate audits. Ultimately, the Biomedical Equipment Technician contributes to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of healthcare delivery by ensuring that all biomedical equipment functions accurately and safely. This role will support 2 hospitals in Missouri and 1 in Georgia, with a focus on the Missouri facilities. We would prefer someone based in either Joplin or Columbia. Repairs can include the following: infusion pumps, patient monitoring, respiratory equipment, beds, defibrillators, operating room equipment, EKG machines, anesthesia machines, etc. (Does not include X-ray or imaging equipment).

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; completion of an accredited Biomedical Equipment Technician training program or associate degree in biomedical technology or related field.
  • Proven experience in maintaining and repairing biomedical equipment in a healthcare environment.
  • Strong understanding of electrical and mechanical systems as they relate to medical devices.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and regulatory guidelines.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs occasionally and 10-20 lbs constantly

Nice To Haves

  • CBET (Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician) certification
  • Background in electronics, instrumentation, or biomedical engineering technology.
  • Experience with maintenance management systems and inventory control processes.
  • Knowledge of healthcare regulations including FDA, CIHQ, and OSHA standards.
  • Strong communication skills (verbal, written) for effective interaction with clinical staff and administration
  • Ability to prioritize and manage daily schedule of activities
  • Ability to work flexible schedule, with some overnight travel required (1-2 nights a month)

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and repairs on biomedical equipment, including ventilators, infusion pumps, defibrillators, and diagnostic devices.
  • Calibrate and test medical devices to ensure compliance with manufacturer specifications and regulatory standards.
  • Respond promptly to equipment malfunctions and service requests from clinical staff, providing timely troubleshooting and resolution.
  • Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities, repairs, and equipment performance to support regulatory compliance and asset management.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, CMS, and hospital safety policies
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers and equipment manufacturers to stay up to date on new technologies and best practices in biomedical equipment management.
