About The Position

The Biomedical Equipment Technician 1 performs essential duties and responsibilities to ensure the competent and consistent operation of medical equipment. This role involves servicing various equipment, including patient monitors, electrocardiographs, blood gas analyzers, x-ray units, defibrillators, electrosurgical units, anesthesia apparatus, pacemakers, blood pressure transducers, spirometers, sterilizers, and diathermy equipment. The technician conducts safety tests to prevent electrical or mechanical hazards, consults with medical staff to ensure equipment functionality, and demonstrates proficiency in using the CMMS database for work orders, assets, and PM schedules. They may also modify or develop instruments, collaborate with external service providers, manage inventories and budgets, participate in emergency calls, and assist with special events. The role may require flexible hours, alternate shifts, weekends, travel, and assignment to various Mercyhealth locations.

Requirements

  • Associate Degree in Bio-Medical Engineering/Electronics or related degree or Military Bio-Medical related certification
  • In lieu of a degree, 2-3 years of direct Bio-Medical experience will be considered.
  • Maintain a valid driver's license
  • Have and maintain driving record per Mercy’s HR-01 Fleet Safety policy

Responsibilities

  • Services various equipment and apparatus including but not limited to patient monitors, electrocardiographs, blood gas analyzers, x-ray units, defibrillators, electrosurgical units, anesthesia apparatus, pacemakers, blood pressure transducers, spirometers, sterilizers, diathermy equipment and other related technical paraphernalia
  • Safety tests medical equipment to ensure patient and staff safety from electrical or mechanical hazards
  • Consults with medical or research staff to ascertain that equipment functions properly and safely.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in entering, completing, retrieving information regarding work orders, assets, PM schedules, and other functions and applications of the CMMS database as pertains to daily operation of the department
  • Modifies or develops instruments or devices.
  • Works collectively with salesperson or service technician or equipment manufacturers or their sales representatives to assure proper operation of equipment
  • Participates in managing inventories and operational budget, taking emergency call and helping with special events
  • May be required to work flexible hours, alternate shifts and weekends
  • May require travel with personal or company vehicle
  • May be assigned to any Mercyhealth locations
  • Other duties as assigned
