About The Position

Shared Health leads the planning and coordinates the integration of patient-centered clinical and preventive health services across Manitoba. The organization also delivers some province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for Manitoba health organizations. Main Function: To provide a safe environment for all patients and staff through the application of approved engineering concepts and repair methods relative to systems used in patient care areas. The Biomedical Engineering Technologist is responsible for daily technical support activities related to equipment and devices used within the clinical, allied health, and/or support service departments to which they are assigned. The major responsibility is ensuring that all complex medical devices used are maintained at a high degree of efficiency to ensure effective, safe care of the patient and safe use for the operator.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an Electronics Technology or specific Biomedical Engineering Technology program from an accredited education institution required.
  • Registration with CTTAM (Certified Technicians and Technologists Association of Manitoba Inc.) required.
  • Must have, or obtain within six months of completion of experience eligibility requirement, certification as an Engineering Technologist by CTTAM (Certified Technicians and Technologists Association of Manitoba Inc.).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Anatomy and Physiology. Can be obtained by CD, class, distance or self-study, if not previously obtained.
  • Good English communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Must have good organizational and time management skills, the ability to grasp concepts quickly, and a strong customer service focus.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision, both independently and as part of a team.
  • Must be able to work under pressure and make decisions using sound judgement.
  • Proficiency in PC use and office productivity software applications such as word processor, spreadsheet and database is required.
  • A current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment.
  • Valid Manitoba driver’s license and use of a personal motor vehicle may be required for travel.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience directly related to Clinical or Biomedical Engineering preferred.
  • Registration as student, technician, or provisional technologist member may be considered.
  • Certification as a Certified Biomedical Engineering Technologist (CBET(c)) with The Canadian Board of Examiners for Biomedical Engineering Technologists and Technicians would be an asset.
  • Working knowledge of plumbing, hydraulics and/or electronic installations is an asset.
