About The Position

The Biomedical Engineer serves in the Healthcare Technology Management (HTM) department at the Salisbury VA Healthcare System and assists in developing and implementing the facility’s medical equipment management program. The role manages medical and special-purpose servers and networks, diagnostic software, virtual platforms, clinical applications, and related hardware, including virtual and physical servers and medical workstations. It manages projects involving medical equipment and clinical systems, from procurement through installation and maintenance, and evaluates whether equipment and systems can integrate with the electronic health record and other clinical systems. The engineer supports system maintenance and security by coordinating software patches, updates, backups, operating-system upgrades, and virus protection. The role coordinates cybersecurity measures and disaster recovery plans, responds to and documents cybersecurity incidents, monitors cybersecurity metrics, and addresses deficiencies. It also manages the facility’s medical device protection program, ensures networked equipment and systems are inventoried, trains HTM staff, and serves as a subject matter expert on committees, projects, and workgroups. The position is full-time, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; telework is ad hoc, and the position is not virtual. At the GS-12 full-performance level, the engineer works under general supervision with wide latitude for independent judgment. The role draws on advanced professional and technical experience to support clinical services, advise clinical and administrative staff, and lead activities such as market research, technology assessments, integration planning, and implementation of current and emerging medical technologies. The work does not inherently require physical abilities that cannot be accommodated through workplace adjustment.
