About The Position
Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK) is seeking a Biomedical Engineer I to join their Biomed/Clinical Engineering team within Health System Operations. This role is crucial for supporting the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of medical devices and healthcare technology across MSK's extensive network of clinical locations. The Biomed/Clinical Engineering team oversees more than 41,000 medical devices across 25 sites, including facilities in Manhattan, New Jersey, Long Island, and Westchester. This position offers a dynamic work environment with exposure to a wide array of medical technologies, contributing to patient care, equipment safety, operational excellence, and healthcare technology initiatives.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related engineering discipline required.
- 0–2 years of relevant experience in biomedical engineering, clinical engineering, healthcare technology management, medical device support, or a related technical field.
- Knowledge of analog and digital electronics.
- Strong technical troubleshooting and analytical skills.
- Excellent organizational and documentation abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.
- Commitment to patient safety, quality, and operational excellence.
- Adaptability and willingness to travel between MSK locations as needed.
Nice To Haves
- Experience using diagnostic and testing equipment such as oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, signal generators, and related tools preferred.
- Familiarity with medical device maintenance, calibration, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting practices preferred.
- Experience supporting healthcare technology, medical equipment, or clinical systems is a plus.
- Understanding of information technology systems and medical device cybersecurity concepts preferred.
Responsibilities
- Support the maintenance, preventive maintenance, calibration, testing, installation, and lifecycle management of medical devices and related systems used throughout the MSK network for clinical use to improve reliability, safety, and efficiency.
- Combine hands-on technical support, project coordination, vendor collaboration, and healthcare technology management to ensure medical equipment remains safe, compliant, and operational.
- Support medical device lifecycle management activities and assist fellow engineers in equipment upgrades, recalls, replacements, and inventory tracking and asset management utilization.
- Assist with the evaluation and testing of medical technologies prior to purchase and implementation.
- Coordinate with vendors, service providers, and clinical departments to support equipment maintenance and operational readiness.
- Support project management activities related to equipment installations, upgrades, replacement initiatives, and departmental projects.
- Support information technology and cybersecurity best practices related to connected medical devices and healthcare technology systems.
- Communicate equipment-related issues, safety concerns, and operational recommendations to leadership and clinical partners.
