About The Position

Repairs, calibrates, and maintains medical equipment, and supports systems of moderate complexity used in healthcare delivery under moderate supervision. This role involves repairing, installing, maintaining, calibrating, and inspecting medical equipment and instrumentation, including life support equipment. It also includes performing preventive maintenance and electrical safety testing of clinical equipment, devices, and electronic systems. The technician will diagnose and correct system and equipment malfunctions, maintain documentation on new equipment, inspections, and equipment repairs and failures, and assist with and evaluate third-party repairs. Additionally, the role provides technical assistance and instruction to personnel regarding equipment operation and maintenance, reviews the outcome of preventive maintenance actions, and makes recommendations to department staff concerning improvements. The technician may also assist senior biomedical engineering technicians or supervisors with in-service educational programs on equipment use and responds to service requests, performing problem assessment, troubleshooting, correction, and documentation.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 2 years' relevant experience required
  • Associate's degree or higher in Biomedical Engineering required upon hire OR Associate's degree or higher in Electronic Engineering required upon hire OR Associate's degree or higher in related field required upon hire
  • A combination of education, training and experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
  • Requires critical thinking skills and decisive judgment.
  • Works under general supervision.
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
  • Applies more advanced skills and knowledge in the area of specialization.
