About The Position

The Biomed Equipment Tech 3 is responsible for servicing various equipment and apparatus, specializing in high-end equipment maintenance such as life support equipment. This role involves performing safety tests to ensure patient and staff safety, consulting with medical staff to ensure proper equipment function, and acting as a resource for partners. The technician will demonstrate proficiency in using the CMMS database for work orders, assets, and PM schedules. They may also modify or develop instruments, work independently with minimal supervision, and collaborate with sales representatives and manufacturers. Responsibilities include managing inventories, operational budgets, taking emergency calls, and assisting with special events. The role may require flexible hours, alternate shifts, weekends, travel, and assignment to any Mercyhealth location.

Requirements

Associate Degree in Bio-Medical Engineering/Electronics or related or related Military equivalent certifications required.
Minimum of 3 years of experience in an environment that pertains to installing, maintaining and repairing medical, electronic and/or mechanical equipment; with at least 1 year Radiology, X-ray, Lab, OR, Dialysis, Anesthesia, Prosthetics or other specialized healthcare equipment experience that can be documented with coursework and/or certification from vendor.
Maintain a valid driver's license
Have and maintain driving record per Mercy’s HR-01 Fleet Safety policy
Ability to understand and apply knowledge in technical manual, interpretive/analytical skills
Ability to prioritize workload
Good interpersonal/communication skills
Knowledge of Computerized Maintenance Management System; Inventory software; Manufacturing software; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.

Nice To Haves

Certification as a Bio-Medical Technician by AAMI, CRES or CLES preferred.

Responsibilities

Services various equipment and apparatus including but not limited to patient monitors, electrocardiographs, blood gas analyzers, x-ray units, defibrillators, electrosurgical units, anesthesia apparatus, pacemakers, blood pressure transducers, spirometers, sterilizers, diathermy equipment and other related technical paraphernalia.
Specializes in high-end equipment maintenance as assigned; I.E. Life support equipment
Safety tests medical equipment to ensure patient and staff safety from electrical or mechanical hazards.
Consults with medical or research staff to ascertain that equipment functions properly and safely.
Acts as a resource for partners and provides support and assistance when needed.
Demonstrates proficiency in entering, completing, retrieving information regarding work orders, assets, PM schedules, and other functions and applications of the CMMS database as pertains to daily operation of the department.
Modifies or develops instruments or devices, as assigned.
Works independently with minimal supervision, prioritize workload, and maintain the highest possible levels of quality and customer satisfaction.
Works collectively with salesperson or service technician or equipment manufacturers or their sales representatives to assure proper operation of equipment.
Participates in managing inventories and operational budget, taking emergency call and helping with special events.
May be required to work flexible hours, alternate shifts and weekends.
May require travel with personal or company vehicle.
May be assigned to any of Mercyhealth locations.
