About The Position

We are currently seeking Biology Lab Technicians to join the Life Sciences Research organization at Battelle at our headquarters on King Avenue, with eventual base location at our laboratory space in West Jefferson, OH. For over 40 years, commercial and government clients have counted on Battelle’s Life Sciences Research expertise and facilities to protect human health by providing an end-to-end partner to conduct research, formulation, development, testing and validation of vaccines, instrument development, therapeutics, and assays to meet a diverse selection of applications. From disease testing and screening, supporting research into the evolution and transmission of infectious agents, and furthering advances in precision medicine. The selected candidates will apply job skills and applicable policies and procedures to complete a variety of tasks. Biology Lab Technicians clearly communicate routine research procedures and results for contribution to reports; and execute and document routine laboratory workflows—including standard cell culture, nucleic acid isolation, PCR, sequencing support, high‑content imaging (e.g., confocal), and plate‑based assays—in accordance with SOPs and quality standards. Ownership of these procedures will increase lab throughput and free scientific staff to focus on advanced cell culture and complex experimental design.

Requirements

Associate degree in Biology, Environmental Sciences or related field; 1 year of applicable experience; or an equivalent combination of education and or experience in a related field.
May be expected to pursue various certifications or continuing educational units, as needed.
Exhibits sufficient technical knowledge to perform routine assignments.
Demonstrated the ability to operate basic equipment and follow standard procedures.
Ability to perform routine specified analysis of data.
Must be U.S. Citizen.

Responsibilities

Works on assignments that are semi-routine in nature where ability to recognize deviation from accepted practice is required.
Execute and document routine laboratory workflows including standard cell culture, nucleic acid isolation, PCR, sequencing, high content imaging (e.g. confocal), plate based assays and other lab-oriented tasks.
May train and guide less experienced staff and may provide input to performance reviews.
Verifies the accuracy, applicability, and reasonableness of project work.
Is encouraged to make recommendations but has limited discretion when making judgments and completing tasks.
Conducts standard as well as non-standard tasks under close supervision and guidance of more experienced staff.
Keeps supervisor informed regularly on status of work.
