The Department of Biology at Brigham Young University seeks to fill a full-time, Continuing Faculty Status (BYU’s equivalent to tenure)-track position for a discipline-based education researcher with biology education research expertise. The department welcomes candidates from a broad range of biological backgrounds who demonstrate a strong commitment to discipline-based education research and student-centered teaching. We seek a candidate committed to creating outstanding classroom experiences that empower students to fulfill BYU’s mission and aims. Teaching responsibilities will include undergraduate and graduate instruction aligned with departmental needs and the candidate’s expertise. Undergraduate teaching may include introductory biology and/or upper-level courses related to the candidate’s disciplinary expertise. Graduate teaching responsibilities will include co-leading the University Teaching Fellows program, a three-course sequence focused on advanced pedagogical methods, course design, and authentic university teaching experience. The successful candidate will develop an independent research program in discipline-based education research and continually pursue external funding in support of that work. The candidate is expected to produce high-quality scholarly work and to engage undergraduate and graduate students in the research process. The successful candidate will be expected to employ evidence-based, student-centered teaching practices; mentor undergraduate and graduate students through teaching, research, and other scholarly and professional activities; and foster a supportive learning environment where students from all backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives can thrive.
