The Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care & Sleep Medicine is accepting applications for a Biological Scientist IV. The position will reside within the Division’s Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Laboratory and will report directly to Dr. Karina Serban, the laboratory director and an experienced physician-scientist in the field of Alpha-1 deficiency and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). This role involves extensive work with human and murine tissue processing, epithelial cell isolation, and precision cut lung slices (PCLS)-related experiments. The scientist will develop novel approaches and analytical tools for harvesting and maintaining cell cultures, design and develop dose escalation studies, and conduct various analyses including immunofluorescence and FACS. Additionally, the position requires intellectual input for troubleshooting organoid and PCLS cultures, scholarly activities related to Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency and COPD research, data analysis and interpretation for meetings and grants, and participation in bio-product development. The role also involves creating or modifying web-based tools for big data interpretation. Managerial duties include supervising other scientists and students, coordinating experiments with external teams, and preparing performance reports.
