•$105,000 - $120,000

About The Position

Axle is seeking a Bioinformatics/Data Scientist to support the National Institutes of Health’s Standardized Organoid Model Center (SOM Center) in Frederick, Maryland. The NIH-funded initiative advances organoid research by developing validated, reproducible, and well-characterized organoid models, standardized protocols, quality-control measures, and resources for the broader research community. The Bioinformatics/Data Scientist will conduct comprehensive analyses of multi-omics data from organoid systems and corresponding normal tissues. The role focuses on characterizing organoid fidelity, identifying biomarkers of successful differentiation, and developing computational frameworks for organoid quality assessment. The position collaborates with experimental teams to interpret results and guide protocol optimization, and contributes to manuscripts and scientific conference presentations.

Requirements

  • PhD in bioinformatics, computational biology, biostatistics, or a related quantitative field.
  • Extensive experience with single-cell data analysis, including familiarity with Seurat, Scanpy, or similar platforms.
  • Strong programming skills in R and Python.
  • Experience in statistical analysis and data visualization.
  • Knowledge of proteomics and metabolomics data analysis workflows.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience analyzing organoid datasets.
  • Experience with machine learning approaches for biological data.
  • Familiarity with pathway analysis tools.
  • Knowledge of developmental biology principles.
  • Experience with high-performance computing environments.
  • Knowledge of version control systems.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze single-cell RNA sequencing, bulk RNA sequencing, proteomics, and metabolomics datasets from organoid systems and tissue counterparts.
  • Develop and implement computational pipelines for data processing, quality control, and statistical analysis.
  • Integrate SOM-generated data with publicly available datasets to benchmark organoid characteristics against normal tissue profiles.
  • Collaborate with experimental teams to interpret results and guide protocol optimization.
  • Contribute to manuscript preparation and present findings at scientific conferences.

Benefits

  • 100% medical, dental, and vision coverage for employees.
  • Paid time off and paid holidays.
