About The Position

The Bindery Operator 3 (Die Cutter) sets up, adjusts, and operates auxiliary bindery equipment to complete printed materials. The role may involve operating automatic adhesive binding machines with multiple process stations, adjusting those stations, and directing a production crew. The operator monitors quality, output, and productivity, and inspects equipment for safety issues. The position also includes training and mentoring new and existing employees on company policies, procedures, and best practices.

Requirements

Thorough knowledge of equipment setup, adjustment, procedures, capabilities, and limitations for standard and specialized binding, folding, collating, and cutting of printed materials.
Comprehensive knowledge of how different paper weights, sizes, types, and colors behave in machines, including identifying conditions such as excessive moisture or curling that may require machine adjustments.
Ability to use standard and specialized tools and devices to adjust and maintain bindery machines.
Skill in making difficult powered-machine adjustments using hand tools and specialized tools.
Skill in operating complicated bindery equipment such as folders, cutters, collators, stitchers, drills, and binding or gluing machines.
Ability to read and interpret written work instructions specifying the number and sequence of machine operations and required dimensional accuracy.

Responsibilities

Set up, adjust, and operate a variety of auxiliary binding machines.
Inspect equipment for safety issues.
Operate automatic adhesive binding machines, including perfect binders, when required.
Adjust and coordinate multiple work stations on a single machine.
Direct the crew through all aspects of production.
Monitor quality, output, and productivity.
Train and mentor new and existing employees on company policies, procedures, and best practices.
