BIM Field Engineer

W.B. GuimarinColumbia, SC
$20 - $25Onsite

About The Position

We are looking for a BIM Field Engineer to serve as the critical link between our BIM/VDC technicians and our construction teams in the field. This is not a desk-only BIM position. You will take coordinated BIM models and use them to help our field teams accurately lay out and install work on active construction projects. A key part of the role will be using Robotic Total Station (RTS) technology to bring model information directly into the field. If you have experience with Revit, AutoCAD, or BIM modeling, enjoy construction technology, and want to see your work go from the computer screen to an actual building, this could be a great opportunity. This position requires regular travel to project sites.

Requirements

  • Experience with Revit and/or AutoCAD
  • Experience creating, working with, or interpreting BIM models
  • Ability to read and understand construction drawings
  • Strong computer and technology skills
  • Strong spatial awareness and ability to translate a 3D model into real-world locations
  • Detail-oriented with a strong focus on accuracy
  • Good communication and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work effectively with both technical BIM personnel and field construction teams
  • Comfortable working independently and taking ownership of field assignments
  • Willingness and ability to travel regularly
  • Valid driver's license and good driving record
  • Ability to work safely on active construction sites

Nice To Haves

  • Mechanical, plumbing, piping, HVAC, or sheet metal construction
  • Commercial or industrial construction
  • Robotic Total Station operation
  • Construction layout or surveying
  • Revit MEP

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the liaison between our BIM technicians and field construction teams
  • Use BIM models and construction documents to support field layout and installation
  • Set up and operate a Robotic Total Station (RTS) for construction layout
  • Translate coordinated model information into accurate field locations
  • Lay out points for piping, ductwork, equipment, sleeves, hangers, supports, penetrations, and other building systems
  • Work directly with foremen, superintendents, project managers, and BIM technicians
  • Identify differences between BIM models, construction documents, and actual field conditions
  • Communicate field changes and coordination issues back to the BIM team
  • Verify dimensions, elevations, and installation locations before work is performed
  • Help field personnel effectively use BIM-generated information
  • Troubleshoot layout and coordination issues in the field
  • Help us continue improving our BIM-to-field technology and processes
  • Travel regularly to active construction projects
