About The Position

Balfour Beatty US is hiring a BIM/VDC Engineer to implement BIM, technology, and related processes and serve as a primary resource to project teams throughout all project phases. The role supports project pursuits by developing BIM strategies for proposals and helping create models and marketing materials. The engineer monitors BIM workflows and serves as a liaison among Balfour Beatty, clients, end users, designers, and subcontractors to ensure that client needs and expectations are met. The position covers marketing, modeling, project coordination, reality capture, facility management, training, research and development, and business knowledge. The engineer creates proposal content, develops and manages project models and BIM execution plans, facilitates coordination and clash detection, supports technology adoption, and develops facility-management turnover materials. The role is based in person in Orlando or Plantation, Florida, with regular travel to other offices and project sites as needed.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Construction Technology, Information Technology, or a related industry.
At least two years of experience in the design, construction, or consulting industry.
Strong understanding of design and construction processes, construction tools and equipment, and project management systems.
Strong understanding of construction technology platforms, processes, and workflows.
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills, a controlled sense of urgency, and ability to manage multiple competing priorities.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with confidence managing the technology process and effective presentation skills.
Ability to travel regularly to other offices and project sites as needed.

Nice To Haves

Operations experience is preferred but not required.
Proficiency or knowledge in software including Navisworks Manage, Revit, AutoCAD, BIM 360, Civil 3D, SketchUp, InfraWorks, Lumion, Bluebeam, Adobe Creative Suite, and related software.
Passion for staying current and informed about advancements in construction-related technology.

Responsibilities

Create 2D and 3D proposal and presentation content demonstrating the company’s technology capabilities.
Document project experience, including project information, coordination items, screenshots, benefits, and lessons learned.
Write BIM- and technology-related articles and custom proposal narratives.
Develop models for building cores and shells, underground utilities, MEP systems, supplementary components, and site conditions for pursuits or coordination.
Develop project-specific BIM Execution Plans and lead BIM implementation with support from the assigned BIM/VDC Manager.
Manage project file sharing.
Develop project-specific coordination schedules with assistance from the project superintendent.
Develop and manage a master composite model and associated clash and viewpoint reports.
Run clash detection and hold subcontractors accountable for model updates.
Take and distribute BIM meeting minutes and reports.
Maintain and collect as-built models.
Set up and use laser scanning, 360 cameras, and drones.
Develop facility-management turnover materials for building operations and facility maintenance.
Maintain the BIM knowledge database, lessons learned, and techniques, and distribute knowledge.
Assist in piloting and implementing adopted technologies, including drones, VR, AR, 360 cameras, and laser scanning.
Understand project delivery methods, contract types, and their effects on bidding, design, and coordination.
Understand the functions and needs of project site teams and the marketing, estimating, scheduling, safety, and accounting teams.
Understand processes for RFIs, ASIs, CCDs, submittals, change orders, and other administrative documents.
Travel regularly to other offices and project sites as needed.
