About The Position

Bennett & Pless, a structural engineering firm with over 60 years of experience, is seeking a BIM Technician to join their growing team in the Dallas office. This role requires increasing independence and the ability to exercise judgment within well-defined procedures and techniques. The technician will be responsible for addressing complex or unusual problems, escalating them to a senior-level technician or supervisor as needed, and will have their output periodically reviewed by a technical lead, supervisor, or direct clients.

Requirements

  • HS diploma or GED; may require technical certification or associate degree.
  • 2-7 years of directly related experience.
  • Autodesk Revit Proficiency is required.
  • Experience with wood, steel, load-bearing light gage steel, concrete, and masonry design in low to mid-rise structures, including shallow and deep foundation system.
  • Readily learns and applies new information and concepts to past practices and knowledge.
  • Deviations from the established workflow are enacted in consultation with technical lead and/or approved by the supervisor before proceeding.
  • Work to support day-to-day operations, such as office organization and facilities management.
  • Must be a self-starter and always willing to listen, learn and improve.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and identify areas of opportunity within the documentation of a project and develop a set of working and review drawings to achieve the level of detail required by the client while utilizing the fundamental principles of the firm to execute a successful project.
  • Collaborate and coordinates internally or/and externally with other disciplines to ensure deliverables are compliant with project specifications, design and model changes, client expectations, and adhere to established organizational standards and quality protocols.
  • Develops accurate, complete, and concise construction drawings and utilizes information included in the contract documents to coordinate with other disciplines and internal designs.
  • Works directly with structural engineers and structural designers to produce contract documents and sketches that align with drafting standards (industry and internal to Bennett and Pless) and meet goals defined in the execution plan and project workflow criteria.
  • Applies engineering, design, and drafting knowledge and detailing practices in a dependable and efficient manner to execute contract documents.
  • Attends conferences, seminars, and workshops on behalf of the company with the intent to continue to learn and develop skills and transferring knowledge internally within the organization.
  • Keeps current on best practices in BIM and BIM software.
  • Creates discipline specific BIM Modelling content.
  • May review shop drawings and submittals.
  • Communicates effectively with the design team to ensure that changes in procedure, standards or elements within the project are effectively communicated to project teams.
  • Preparing BIM generated structural construction drawings for a variety of project types, including manufacturing, distribution, data center, commercial, schools, medical facilities, retail, adaptive reuse, and renovations.
