About The Position

Rocking Horse Community Health Center (RHCHC) is a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) that provides healthcare services to some of the area’s most vulnerable populations. The organization is seeking a Billing Specialist to join their patient invoicing and insurance billing department. This individual will be responsible for the collection of payments for services provided to patients. RHCHC is located within walking distance of downtown Springfield, Ohio, which offers a variety of locally owned & operated eateries, bakeries & coffee shops. Springfield is centrally located between Dayton & Columbus, offering a high quality of life and low cost of living in Southwestern Ohio. Clark County has excellent school systems and is home to Clark State College and Wittenberg University. The position is full-time and non-exempt (hourly).

Requirements

  • High school diploma or (GED) required
  • Three to six month’s related experience and or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience required
  • Knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft Office and Excel are required
  • Patient Health Information (PHI) and HIPPA compliant
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos
  • Ability to write simple correspondence
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization
  • Ability to add and subtract multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and draw and interpret bar graphs
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to consistently carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
  • Knowledge of Accounts Receivable software
  • Knowledge of spreadsheet software
  • Knowledge of Word processing software
  • A current driver’s license and an acceptable driving record
  • Must not pose a direct threat to the health and safety of himself/herself or others in the workplace

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s degree is a plus
  • Prior billing/accounting experience
  • Working with an Electronic Health Record System (EHR) is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Perform necessary coding edits to claims
  • Process EDI files
  • Upload electronic claims to the clearinghouse
  • Contact patients regarding outstanding balances
  • Assist in establishing budget plans to assist outstanding patient balances
  • Post payments received from insurance and patients
  • Perform each essential duty satisfactorily
  • Read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos
  • Write simple correspondence
  • Effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization
  • Apply common sense understanding to consistently carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form
  • Deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the role of Federally Qualified Health Centers as a safety net for all persons without regard for their ability to pay for services
  • Appreciate patient-centered care in a medical home
  • Be committed to quality, comprehensive services through a team approach
  • Understand that the highest standard of confidentiality is essential
  • Understand the privacy policies and procedures
  • Share or release only the minimal amount of PHI or Employee information necessary to accomplish the internal purpose
