About The Position

The Medical Billing Specialist works on the Client Access team to help make access to care clear and seamless. The role verifies insurance benefits, identifies coverage requirements or barriers, and ensures accurate information is available before services begin. The position supports behavioral health and substance use disorder services and helps with revenue cycle functions as needed.

This is a remote position for candidates residing in Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, or Massachusetts. The schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least 1 year of experience in insurance verification, patient access, and/or medical billing.
• Knowledge of eligibility, benefits, and patient responsibility.
• Strong attention to detail, organization, communication, and follow-through.

Responsibilities

• Verify insurance eligibility and behavioral health or substance use disorder benefits before services are provided.
• Use payer portals and phone calls to confirm deductibles, copayments, coinsurance, out-of-pocket maximums, network status, limitations, and authorization requirements.
• Accurately document verification details and communicate benefits, estimated patient responsibility, and coverage concerns to appropriate teams.
• Follow up on discrepancies, coverage changes, and pending verifications within established timelines.
• Escalate coverage barriers promptly and maintain organized supporting documentation.
• Follow HIPAA and compliance guidelines and support revenue cycle functions as needed.
