Requirements

  • Proficiency with billing software and electronic health records (EHR) systems.
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology, billing procedures, and coding standards.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with the highest degree of integrity and confidentiality.
  • Minimum of 2 years of medical billing experience, preferably in ophthalmology.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Business, or a related field preferred.
  • Certification in medical billing and coding (CPC, CCS-P) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and submit insurance claims for services rendered.
  • Post payments from insurance companies and patients.
  • Reconcile payments and resolve discrepancies.
  • Analyze the aging report to identify accounts with overdue balances, focusing on claims that require immediate attention based on age and priority.
  • Follow up on unpaid claims and investigate reasons for denials.
  • Generate and send out patient statements.
  • Handle patient billing inquiries and resolve any issues.
  • Set up and manage payment plans for patients as necessary.
  • Utilize correct coding practices for procedures (CPT, ICD-10).
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, including HIPAA.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and secure handling of patient records.
  • Other duties as assigned.
