About The Position

Evolution Wellness is a growing private outpatient mental health practice in Wilmington, North Carolina. We provide therapy services for anxiety, trauma, depression, relationship concerns, and life transitions for individuals, couples, families, and teens. We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Billing Specialist to join our team on a part-time basis. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys solving problems, navigating insurance systems, managing accounts receivable, and helping ensure a smooth financial experience for our clients. The ideal candidate is organized, dependable, and comfortable working independently while collaborating closely with our administrative and clinical teams.

Requirements

  • 1–3 years of medical billing, accounts receivable, or healthcare revenue cycle experience.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Comfortable working independently and taking ownership of assigned responsibilities.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with behavioral health or mental health billing.
  • Familiarity with Medicaid managed care plans, commercial insurance billing, and coordination of benefits.
  • Experience with electronic health records and billing software such as TheraNest.
  • Knowledge of insurance credentialing, claim appeals, and denial management.

Responsibilities

  • Submit, review, and track insurance claims for accuracy and timely reimbursement.
  • Investigate and resolve claim denials, rejections, and payment discrepancies.
  • Manage insurance follow-up and accounts receivable to reduce aging balances.
  • Communicate professionally with insurance companies regarding claim status, benefits, eligibility, and payment issues.
  • Assist clients with billing questions, payment plans, insurance benefits, and account balances.
  • Post payments, adjustments, and charges accurately within the practice management system.
  • Audit documentation and billing records to ensure compliance and claim accuracy.
  • Monitor billing trends and identify opportunities to improve collections and reimbursement processes.
  • Stay current on CPT, ICD-10, HCPCS, and payer-specific billing requirements.
  • Collaborate with leadership to resolve complex billing issues and improve operational efficiency.
