This position is located at the SC Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) - Central Office, 400 Otarre Parkway Cayce, SC 29033. As the Billing Specialist / Fiscal Technician II, you will be responsible for working on all aspects of the billing cycle specifically in accounts receivable, payment posting, working denials and submitting appeals. This role requires attention to details and focus and knowledge of medical billing practices and the ability to collaborate across departments to resolve claim issues and improve reimbursement outcomes.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma and entry-level experience in accounting or bookkeeping.
  • A bachelor's degree with multiple accounting courses may be substituted for required work experiences.
  • Knowledge of Electronic Medical Records software and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word).
  • Strong attention to detail, 10-key data entry skills, knowledge of medical coding, customer service, and excellent communication.
  • Understand payor rules related to outpatient mental health services.

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Submit and track claims for accuracy and timely payment.
  • Navigate Insurance portals, electronic medical record and billing software.
  • Analyze accounts receivable reports and follow-up on unpaid claims and denials.
  • Reconcile patient accounts and communicate with insurance carriers regarding disputes or appeals.
  • Identify problems processes that could impact revenue.
  • Support team members by filling in wherever needed to keep revenue cycle running smoothly.
  • Post payments and reconcile monthly payments to the accounting system.
  • Maintain compliance with the insurance guidelines and HIPAA regulations
