Billing Manager, Provider Billing
About The Position
Steno is seeking a Billing Manager to lead the court reporter and provider billing function, a critical operational area of the business. This role offers significant authority and visibility across the organization. The Billing Manager will be responsible for the entire billing engine, from rate cards to vendor compensation and multi-state billing structures. This is a cross-functional role requiring close partnership with Sales, Operations, and Product teams to optimize billing systems and tools. The ideal candidate will be a builder who can identify and fix broken workflows, design scalable systems, and create clear playbooks. The role involves navigating complex, jurisdiction-specific billing rules and multi-market rate structures in a fast-paced product environment.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in billing, accounting, or finance operations.
- Ideally experience in legal services, court reporting, or a multi-vendor or two-sided marketplace environment.
- Strong people leadership skills.
- Expertise in rate cards and vendor compensation models.
- Ability to create clarity for managed team members.
- Ability to hold a high bar for performance.
- Ability to simplify complex, multi-state processes into clear, scalable workflows.
Responsibilities
- Lead Steno’s court reporter and provider billing operations.
- Manage, mentor, and coach a high-performing billing team.
- Serve as the subject matter expert for the entire billing engine, including rate cards, vendor compensation, and multi-state billing structures.
- Partner closely with Sales, Operations, and Product on billing systems and tools.
- Identify and fix broken workflows, designing scalable systems and playbooks.
- Navigate jurisdiction-specific billing rules and multi-market rate structures.
- Create clarity for the team managed and hold a high bar for performance.
- Simplify complex, multi-state processes into clear, scalable workflows.
