About The Position

We are seeking a Behavioral Health Billing Coordinator to provide essential administrative and billing support within our behavioral health department. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast‑paced environment, excels in organization, and is committed to supporting patient access to care through accurate and efficient administrative operations. The Behavioral Health Billing Coordinator oversees all secretarial and office management functions for the department, ensuring smooth day‑to‑day workflow. This includes scheduling, daily insurance verification, billing activities, preauthorization entry, authorization tracking, and a variety of administrative duties that support both clinical and billing teams.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required; Business School certification preferred.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of related experience in a medical, healthcare, or professional business environment preferred.
  • Knowledge of commercial insurance plans, state insurance programs, and Access Health CT required.
  • Bilingual Spanish-speaking candidates preferred.
  • Must be able to function effectively in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple tasks and competing priorities, including answering telephones, coordinating schedules, and supporting various disciplines.
  • Strong communication, training, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion when handling sensitive medical, personal, and social situations.
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining professionalism and sound judgment in all interactions.

Responsibilities

  • Performs all secretarial and office managerial functions required in order to ensure smooth business operations.
  • Answers calls and inquiries related to department functions. Responds accordingly and/or relays accurate messages in a timely manner.
  • Records and calculates timesheets for the appropriate department, if applicable.
  • Collects and distributes mail within the department as appropriate.
  • Greets and assists staff and visitors. Maintains a respectable and professional attitude with co-workers, supervisors and patients at all times.
  • Oversees the maintenance and stock of general office supplies.
  • Accurately verifies, creates and maintains patient accounts in the billing and other carrier computers.
  • Performs data entry as required for billing MAT services & inpatient detox.
  • Responsible for Department of Drug and Alcohol Program (DDAP) entry and maintenance.
  • Documents approved CS-HHC sliding scale fees in the billing system ensuring that the discount is correct.
  • Performs collection and posts payments to accounts as required.
  • Assists Patient Accounts with denied MAT & inpatient detox claims as needed.
  • Verifies monthly MAT roster and scheduled appointments.
  • Verifies insurance and assists patients with inactive insurance needs.
  • Responsible for the maintenance of billing and credentialing data, if applicable.
  • Responsible for scheduling MAT/inpatient detox groups and maintaining sign-in sheets.
