About The Position

The Billing Compliance Education Specialist oversees the creation and implementation of documentation, coding, and billing compliance education for physicians, advanced practice professionals, residents, fellows, post-doctoral associates, medical students, and staff in accordance with the UF College of Medicine – Jacksonville Billing Compliance Plan. Education will be delivered via the organization's learning management system through E-learning authoring software and in-person.

Requirements

  • Experience with LMS environments and eLearning authoring.
  • Five (5) years of medical billing/claims experience including coding, medical terminology, and third-party reimbursement.
  • Experience in adult training environment.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills and commitment to customer service.
  • Computer literate with proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Certified Professional Coder (CPC or CCS-P)

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with the Director of Physician Billing Compliance Services to design and publish (by way of E-learning authoring software) documentation, coding, billing, and compliance educational materials and tests for use in annual mandatory compliance education, new provider education, and remedial education delivered to providers (physicians, advanced practice professionals, residents, fellows, postdoctoral associates, and medical students) as well as billing/coding staff.
  • Ensures that all online educational/training material is revised or updated as soon as possible after coding/payer/regulatory changes are made.
  • Determines training objectives of future online educational initiatives/courses and in-services.
  • Delivers one-on-one or in-person education when requested and available. One-on-one training may require travel throughout the UF Health network.
  • Assists practice plan administrators in resolving specific educational or training problems and in disseminating information in regard to federal and state regulations pertaining to billing compliance.
  • Collaborates with the Physician Billing Compliance Services auditing team by conducting one-on-one educational sessions with providers and/or billing/coding staff on remedial education needs identified in billing compliance audits.
  • Responds to email inquiries from medical departments, Revenue Cycle, and Patient Accounting and Collections with official/authoritative citations supporting the advice given.
  • Records inquiries and responses in the investigative case management system (Case IQ).
  • Oversees continuing education on existing documentation, coding, and billing compliance concepts.
  • Analyzes adverse billing compliance audit results and creates abbreviated and targeted remedial educational courses in the Learning Management System which are designed to improve audit outcomes.
  • Collaborates with the Professional Billing Clinical Documentation Improvement team to create educational material that clarifies documentation and billing requirements.
  • Creates/maintains the official UFJPI E/M Coding Tools used by UF COM—JAX providers and UFJPI staff to assign codes/levels for E/M visit services correctly.
