About The Position

New Leaf Behavioral Health, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing affordable, accessible, and high-quality mental health care, is seeking a part-time Billing and Revenue Cycle Specialist. This role is crucial for overseeing insurance claims processes, managing bookkeeping tasks, and supporting client account inquiries. The specialist will ensure the revenue cycle operates efficiently, outstanding balances are resolved, and financial records are meticulously maintained. The position offers part-time hours (15-20 per week) with flexible scheduling available within standard business hours.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, healthcare administration, or equivalent professional work experience.
  • Comfortable using Windows-based computers and Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Word.
  • Ability to quickly learn and utilize electronic health record (EHR) systems and medical billing platforms.
  • Excellent organizational, prioritization, and time-management skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, specifically related to financial reconciliation.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and professionalism.
  • A self-starter who exercises sound judgment and works highly independently.
  • Comfortable holding payers and clients accountable while maintaining positive, professional relationships.

Nice To Haves

  • At least 2 years of experience in medical billing, revenue cycle management, bookkeeping, or a related accounting role.
  • Experience investigating insurance claims, reading EOBs, and managing healthcare denials is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with bookkeeping or accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks) is highly preferred.
  • Experience working in a mental health, medical practice, or nonprofit environment is a plus.
  • Ability to speak Spanish is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Manage insurance billing activities, including claim review, submission, and diligent follow-up.
  • Investigate and monitor unpaid insurance claims, working actively to appeal denials, fix rejections, and resolve outstanding payer balances.
  • Audit billing codes and processes to ensure accurate reimbursement and compliance with payer requirements.
  • Work collaboratively with clinical and administrative staff to ensure timely and accurate billing documentation.
  • Perform routine bookkeeping activities, including recording payments, reconciling accounts, and preparing deposits.
  • Maintain highly accurate financial records and perform data entry with a high degree of precision across accounting and billing platforms.
  • Assist leadership with month-end financial reporting, revenue tracking, and small financial projects.
  • Maintain organized physical and electronic financial records while ensuring documentation is accurate and complete.
  • Follow up on client balances professionally and courteously, helping clients understand their financial responsibilities, statements, and Explanation of Benefits (EOBs).
  • Assist in resolving client billing concerns with professionalism, discretion, and compassion.
  • Provide outstanding customer service to clients and community partners regarding financial inquiries.
  • Maintain the strict confidentiality of sensitive financial and health information in accordance with federal and state privacy laws.
