Billing and Collection Supervisor

About The Position

Administrative, technical, and supervisory work in processing and collection of all town taxes and billed receivables and related reports; all other duties as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field
  • More than five years work experience preferably in a municipal financial setting with supervisory responsibilities
  • Extensive understanding of general office procedures, equipment, and Microsoft office computer applications and billing and collection functions
  • Knowledge of state and Federal laws governing municipal finance and Federal and state tax regulations
  • Must have or acquire knowledge of state and local laws as they pertain to the position
  • Working knowledge of auditing techniques and procedures
  • Ability to understand the overall objectives and various functions of the Treasurer/Collector Department
  • Ability to deal effectively with the general public, staff, vendors, town departments and taxing agencies
  • Ability to attend to details, work independently, use judgment and initiative to prioritize tasks
  • Ability to work efficiently and calmly under pressure and time constraints to meet deadlines
  • Ability to recognize errors and quickly respond with corrective action
  • Proficiency in the use of standard software applications including word processing, excel, data entry and database management
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Good analytical skills needed for researching and resolving issues
  • Good auditing skills required
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem solving skills

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with MUNIS financial management systems preferred
  • Knowledge of automated accounting systems helpful
  • Flexibility to be deployed to the various activities within the Treasurer/Collector Department
