About The Position

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Medical Biller to join our growing outpatient mental health practice. The Medical Biller will be responsible for managing all aspects of the revenue cycle, including insurance verification, claim submission, payment posting, denial management, and patient billing. The ideal candidate has experience with behavioral health billing, understands mental health CPT and diagnosis coding, and is committed to maintaining compliance and confidentiality.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of medical billing experience.
  • Experience with behavioral health, mental health, psychiatry, psychology, or counseling billing preferred.
  • Knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS coding principles.
  • Familiarity with insurance carriers, authorization processes, and reimbursement guidelines.
  • Proficiency with EHR and billing software systems.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication and customer service abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Professional Biller (CPB) or related certification.
  • Experience billing for outpatient mental health services.
  • Knowledge of telehealth billing requirements.
  • Experience with Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial behavioral health payers.

Responsibilities

  • Submit electronic and paper claims to commercial insurance companies, Medicare, Medicaid, and other payers.
  • Verify patient insurance eligibility, benefits, authorizations, and coverage requirements.
  • Review claims for accuracy and completeness before submission.
  • Monitor claim status and follow up on unpaid, delayed, denied, or rejected claims.
  • Research and resolve billing discrepancies and payment issues.
  • Post insurance and patient payments accurately and timely.
  • Manage accounts receivable and work aging reports to maximize collections.
  • Prepare and send patient statements and respond to billing inquiries.
  • Coordinate with therapists, psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, and administrative staff regarding documentation and billing requirements.
  • Maintain compliance with HIPAA, payer regulations, and practice policies.
  • Review Explanation of Benefits (EOBs) and Electronic Remittance Advice (ERAs).
  • Track and appeal denied claims with supporting documentation.
  • Assist with month-end billing reports and revenue cycle analysis.
  • Maintain accurate patient account records within the electronic health record (EHR) and billing systems.
