About The Position

The Bilingual Teacher Aide provides instructional, linguistic, and classroom support to teachers and multilingual learners to promote academic achievement and language development. Working under the supervision of the classroom teacher and school administration, the Bilingual Teacher Aide assists with instruction, translates and interprets as appropriate, supports student engagement, and helps create a positive, inclusive learning environment where students can succeed. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Meet one of the following New Jersey requirements for a Teacher Aide: At least 60 college credits; Passing score on the Paraprofessional Praxis Assessment; or Bachelor's Degree.
  • Fluency in English and at least one additional language (Spanish preferred).
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, families, and staff in both languages.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as a member of a school team.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with multilingual learners or students in an educational setting.
  • Experience supporting English Language Learners (ELLs)/Multilingual Learners (MLs).
  • Knowledge of culturally responsive instructional practices.
  • Valid New Jersey driver's license is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the classroom teacher in providing instructional support to multilingual learners in individual, small-group, and whole-class settings.
  • Reinforce lessons and instructional concepts in both English and the student's native language, as appropriate.
  • Support students in developing English language proficiency while encouraging academic success across content areas.
  • Translate and interpret instructional materials, classroom communications, and school documents, as appropriate and within District guidelines.
  • Assist teachers in preparing instructional materials, classroom activities, and learning resources.
  • Monitor student progress and communicate observations to the supervising teacher.
  • Supervise students in classrooms, hallways, cafeterias, playgrounds, field trips, arrival, dismissal, and other school activities to promote a safe learning environment.
  • Assist with classroom management by reinforcing school expectations and positive student behavior.
  • Provide support during classroom assessments, assignments, homework, and make-up work as directed by the supervising teacher.
  • Assist students with technology and educational software used for instruction.
  • Maintain accurate records and instructional materials as assigned.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and required training.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with teachers, administrators, staff, students, and families.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student records and information in accordance with District policy and applicable laws.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervising teacher or school administration.
