About The Position

At Tutor Me Education, we are revolutionizing the way students learn, and we're seeking passionate teachers and tutors with special education experience to provide 1:1 in-home tutoring in Gardena, CA! If you're committed to making a difference in the lives of students with special needs and helping them achieve academic success, we want to hear from you! As an Tutor at Tutor Me Education, you’ll provide personalized, one-on-one tutoring to students with special needs in their homes. You will be responsible for helping students with daily activities, offering moral support, and delivering tailored instruction based on their Individualized Education Plan (IEP). We are currently hiring for multiple positions across all cities in Gardena, CA!

Requirements

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish (required)
  • Experience working with students with significant learning differences and IEPs
  • Background supporting students performing at early elementary levels (Kindergarten level)
  • Strong understanding of foundational literacy, including phonics, vocabulary, and early reading comprehension
  • Experience teaching foundational math skills, including basic arithmetic and number sense
  • Knowledge of handwriting development and fine motor support strategies
  • Creative, engaging, and able to design interactive, student-centered lessons
  • Patient and supportive, with the ability to build confidence and maintain motivation
  • Comfortable conducting an academic assessment to guide instruction

Responsibilities

  • Conduct an initial tutor assessment to determine current academic and skill levels
  • Provide individualized instruction in foundational literacy, including phonics, vocabulary, and basic comprehension
  • Deliver math instruction focused on foundational skills such as counting and basic arithmetic
  • Support handwriting development, including spacing, alignment, letter formation, and proper use of writing space
  • Use visual supports, modeling, and guided practice to reinforce learning
  • Create engaging, creative lessons that align with the student’s interests (e.g., drawing)
  • Break down tasks into small, manageable steps with repetition and consistency
  • Implement structured sessions with clear routines and expectations
  • Provide encouragement and positive reinforcement to support motivation and confidence
  • Maintain a calm, supportive, and engaging learning environment
  • Monitor progress and adjust instruction based on student needs
  • Communicate regularly with caregivers regarding progress and strategies
