The PreOp/PACU Registered Nurse ensures optimal patient outcomes by providing expert perioperative nursing care at AICA Orthopedics' state-of-the-art Surgery Center. This position directly impacts patient safety, satisfaction, and surgical efficiency by managing the critical transition periods before and after procedures. Your clinical expertise, attention to detail, and patient advocacy ensure every patient receives exceptional care during vulnerable moments of their surgical experience. Requirements

  • Graduate of accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN)
  • Current active Registered Nurse license in Georgia
  • Current ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification
  • Current BLS/CPR (Basic Life Support) certification
  • 2+ years of perioperative nursing experience (PreOp, PACU, OR, GI lab, or pain management procedures)
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently while maintaining attention to detail and clinical accuracy
  • Strong critical thinking skills with ability to recognize and respond to emergent situations
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to educate patients and families effectively

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) strongly preferred
  • CNOR (Certified Perioperative Nurse) or CAPA (Certified Ambulatory Perianesthesia Nurse) certification
  • Experience in orthopedic or ambulatory surgery center settings
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive preoperative assessments including vital signs, medical history review, and identification of potential surgical risks
  • Verify patient identity, surgical site, and procedural consent in accordance with surgical safety protocols
  • Perform preoperative testing including blood pressure monitoring, glucose checks, and pregnancy screening as indicated
  • Educate patients and families on perioperative expectations, discharge instructions, and post-procedure care requirements
  • Communicate critical assessment findings to surgeons and anesthesia providers prior to procedure initiation
  • Monitor patients during post-anesthesia recovery, assessing vital signs, pain levels, and neurological status
  • Administer medications and interventions to manage post-operative pain, nausea, and other complications
  • Recognize and respond to potential post-operative complications requiring immediate physician notification
  • Ensure patients meet discharge criteria before releasing to responsible adult with appropriate home care instructions
  • Conduct post-discharge follow-up calls to assess patient recovery and address concerns
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and comprehensive documentation of all perioperative nursing care in electronic medical records
  • Ensure strict compliance with HIPAA regulations and patient confidentiality standards
  • Maintain current knowledge of evidence-based perioperative nursing practices and regulatory requirements
  • Prepare and maintain perioperative areas ensuring equipment, supplies, and medications are properly stocked
  • Serve as Alternate Director of Nursing when primary administrator is not present
