The YMCA Summer Work Student Exchange is a national exchange program offering opportunities for youth to personally develop and to improve their second language skills, while gaining important employment experience. Participants are Canadian youth, 16 or 17 years of age that will exchange with another community in Canada for 6 weeks during the summer. Youth are twinned with a community in another province where the other official language predominates, and are provided with both a homestay and employment opportunity to deepen their cultural and language experiences through intensive immersion. The Program Coordinator plans, arranges and oversees the coordination of travel arrangements for program participants and travel chaperones, as well as managing the related travel budget in coordination with the Manager. The Program Coordinator also provides administrative leadership to the program, which includes overseeing expense claims, oversight of documentation processes, database maintenance, Human Resource information systems, program supplies and more. Additionally, the Program Coordinator provides leadership in staff training and supporting the development of training tools for summer staff, employers and participants, as it relates to the travel and administration functions. Finally, this person will be a team player and work in close collaboration with the national team in varying areas of the program.
