About The Position

The Fund for Public Health in New York City (FPHNYC) is seeking an enthusiastic and detail-oriented Bilingual Outreach Associate to assist with implementing the Get the Good Stuff program. This role involves program promotion, recruitment, enrollment, and survey administration, primarily at supermarkets across NYC. Periodic visits to the NYC Health Department office in Long Island City, Queens, are also required for data entry and other projects. This is a temporary, part-time position, working up to 21 hours per week over 3 days, with a flexible schedule between Monday and Friday. The Bureau of Chronic Disease Prevention (BCDP) aims to reduce chronic diseases by promoting healthy eating through environmental shaping and building on community resources. The Get the Good Stuff Program specifically aims to make fruits and vegetables more affordable for SNAP participants by offering a dollar-for-dollar match on eligible purchases at select independent grocery stores.

Requirements

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish required
  • Proficiency in MS Excel
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Detail-oriented and highly organized
  • Able to work independently, with limited need for supervision
  • Experience working in multicultural settings with diverse populations in NYC
  • Knowledgeable about health inequities and community food security issues
  • Willing and able to travel to a variety of neighborhoods throughout NYC
  • Willing and able to stand for long periods of time

Responsibilities

  • Conduct site visits at supermarkets across diverse communities and populations in NYC.
  • Promote the program at participating supermarkets, including explaining how the program works and answering questions.
  • Enroll eligible customers and track daily enrollment numbers.
  • Enter participant enrollment data into Microsoft Excel.
  • Assist with training supermarket staff on how to promote the program.
  • Conduct participant surveys at supermarkets as needed.
  • Ensure stock of program materials at participating supermarkets.
  • Attend outreach events such as community health fairs to promote Get the Good Stuff.
  • Assist with identification of potential outreach partners such as community-based organizations and SNAP enrollment centers.
