About The Position

Casa de Salud Medical Clinic is a nonprofit located in the South Valley of Albuquerque that offers fair-priced, integrative healthcare to patients who commonly lack access to adequate healthcare services. At Casa de Salud, care is rooted in dignity, trust, creativity, cultural humility, and mutual respect. The Casa de Salud Health Apprentice Program is a unique opportunity for college students who aspire to become healthcare professionals to learn on-the-job under the supervision of licensed and trained health professionals and peers. This program will assist students in gaining experience for entry level positions in health care settings and to create a solid foundation for medical school or other related careers. Many of our alumni go on to become doctors, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurses and administrators. Some return to practice medicine at Casa de Salud, or go on to careers in hospitals and other clinics. The Casa de Salud Health Apprentice Program seeks to provide a pipeline to diversity in healthcare professions in New Mexico. Requirements

• Must have a Work-Study Award.
• Fluent in both English and Spanish.
• Undergo a background check prior to beginning in the clinic.
• Have reliable transportation to and from the South Valley location of Casa de Salud.
• Be timely and able to work a minimum of 12 hours per week (and maximum of 20-22).
• Be comfortable working in an environment that supports and implements harm reduction practices for active drug users.
• Commitment of one year (12 months) in the program.

Nice To Haves

• Prior experience working in a clinical setting.
• Major in science/health programs.

Responsibilities

• Assist in many aspects of patient care and clinical operation of the clinic.
• Take patient vitals.
• Draw blood.
• Prepare blood and urine samples for lab work.
• Assist in procedures.
• Perform EKGs.
• Attend to harm reduction (syringe exchange) clients.
• Help to open and close the clinic.
• Serve as language interpreters for clinicians who require interpretation once trained.
• Perform a variety of administrative and clerical duties in addition to direct patient contact.
• Patient communication and scheduling.
