About The Position

Chatelaine and Châtelaine are looking for a creative, audience-first storyteller to help shape how Canada’s most iconic women’s media brands show up online. This role requires someone who understands what makes people stop scrolling, start sharing and keep coming back. The ideal candidate can spot a great story, package it for different platforms, and build meaningful connections with audiences across social, video, newsletters, and digital experiences. This position is part strategist, part creator, and part editor, leading the digital and social presence across English and French channels. Responsibilities include creating content, developing audience growth strategies, experimenting with new formats, and bringing journalism and storytelling to life wherever the audience spends time. The role involves pitching social-first content series, hosting Reels, writing newsletter intros, engaging in cultural conversations, and shaping feature packages for maximum impact. A strong point of view on how Chatelaine and Châtelaine can serve loyal audiences while reaching and engaging a new generation of readers is essential.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience creating, publishing and growing content across digital and social platforms.
  • Fluent in English and French, with a strong understanding of Québec culture.
  • Proven track record of building audiences and creating content that drives engagement.
  • Exceptional writer and editor with strong storytelling instincts.
  • Understand what works across Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, newsletters and emerging platforms.
  • Comfortable on camera, behind the camera and directing talent when needed.
  • Know how to balance creativity with audience data and performance insights.
  • Experience with CMS platforms, social publishing tools, newsletter platforms and analytics tools.
  • Understand SEO/GEO/AI fundamentals and how content is discovered online.
  • Highly organized, collaborative and comfortable managing multiple priorities.
  • Bring energy, creativity and a willingness to experiment.

  • Experience hosting video, podcast or live content.
  • Experience with commerce or affiliate content.
  • Familiarity with audience growth testing and experimentation.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute digital and social strategies that grow audience, engagement and brand affinity across English and French platforms.
  • Build and manage content calendars across web, newsletters and social channels.
  • Translate editorial, print and commercial projects into audience-focused digital experiences.
  • Monitor audience trends, platform shifts and emerging opportunities to help shape coverage and content plans.
  • Use analytics and audience insights to inform decisions, identify opportunities and continually improve performance.
  • Lead regular audience and performance reviews, turning learnings into actionable plans.
  • Create, write, edit and publish compelling content across platforms, including articles, newsletters, videos, social posts and emerging formats.
  • Develop social-first storytelling approaches for Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Facebook and future platforms.
  • Produce and appear in content including Reels, TikToks, videos, podcasts and live experiences.
  • Work with editors, writers, designers and video producers to bring stories to life in ways that feel native to each platform.
  • Collaborate with SJC’s video team to develop new series, franchises and audience-focused storytelling initiatives.
  • Identify trends, conversations and cultural moments worth participating in.
  • Oversee day-to-day publishing across Chatelaine and Châtelaine digital platforms.
  • Curate and manage homepages to ensure a fresh, engaging and audience-first experience.
  • Package and repackage stories through strong headlines, imagery, SEO, internal linking and recirculation strategies.
  • Work closely with product, SEO and development teams to improve audience experience and discoverability across our platforms.
  • Champion best practices that help readers discover more of our journalism and content.
  • Explore and implement AI tools that support content creation, audience insights, workflow efficiencies and content optimization while maintaining editorial standards.
  • Test new formats, storytelling approaches and audience growth opportunities.
  • Continuously improve workflows and processes to help teams work smarter and move faster.
  • Manage digital budgets and resources responsibly.
  • Collaborate closely with editorial, design, video, audience and commercial teams.
  • Manage freelancers, contributors and emerging talent as needed.
  • Represent Chatelaine and Châtelaine at industry events, conferences and community activations.
  • Build relationships with creators, writers, brands and industry partners.
  • Contribute to broader brand initiatives across editorial, events and experiential programs.
