About The Position

YWCA Rock County is dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women, and promoting peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all. Alternatives to Violence (AVP) YWCA Alternatives to Violence provides safe, confidential, and sensitive services to domestic violence victims and their minor children, sexual assault victims and their minor children and victims of human trafficking through a 24-hour helpline and text line, emergency shelter, supportive case management services, legal advocacy, and support groups for residents, walk-in clients and community members. The Child & Family Advocate is responsible for case management and implementing and evaluating child and family programming and needed services for Hispanic-Latino and non-Hispanic-Latino speaking clients. This includes some legal advocacy and assisting in the training of volunteers, interns, new staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or Human Services field or commensurate experience with demonstrated knowledge and application of social work/human services best practices.
  • Proficiency in Spanish
  • Knowledge of child development and ability to relate to children, birth to teen.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of developmentally appropriate parenting practices.
  • Case management and group facilitation skills.
  • Knowledge of the dynamics of domestic violence and sexual assault and its effects on children and young adults.
  • Knowledge of domestic violence, housing programs, family dynamics and community resources.
  • Detail-oriented with good communication, problem solving, time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to develop a team approach with staff, volunteers and community partners.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills required.
  • Experience working with culturally and economically diverse populations.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and professionalism, with high standards of integrity and credibility.

Responsibilities

  • Crisis Intervention and Culturally sensitive Case Management support for survivors of: Domestic violence, sexual assault and human trafficking; conduct safety planning and Domestic Violence Legal Services, Restraining Orders and Bond Modifications; facilitate Education and referral to additional Community Resources; assess emergency shelter needs
  • Conduct intake screenings with children/youth that are in shelter, making necessary recommendations and referrals where appropriate to the parent
  • Develop safety plans with clients under the age of 18.
  • Provide advocacy and case management services for clients under the age of 18.
  • Provide appropriate referrals and resources for children and youth while at shelter
  • Plan and facilitate child and youth support groups to address issues that may include safety plans, conflict resolution and anger management
  • Collaborate with adult clients to address parenting concerns.
  • Facilitate Nurturing Parenting curriculum
  • Work to establish and maintain relationships with local community youth services and others to advocate for victim’s needs
  • Provide information on civil and criminal court procedures to victims and assist them in navigating the legal system
  • Provide information on the rights of victims of crime, assist with victim compensation process as applicable and collaborate with local Victim Witness Office as applicable to minimize duplication of services
  • Assist victims of domestic violence and sexual assault in the process of obtaining a restraining order and/or Safe at Home program
  • Continue to participate in applicable training, including trauma informed care and crisis work
  • Share in shelter responsibilities which may include answering helpline, text line and on-call duties
  • Establish and continue utilizing a self-care/safety plan
  • Assist in providing services to shelter residents
  • Represent the YWCA on community groups as requested
  • Maintain confidentiality of current and past clients, per policy and law
  • Attend staff, departmental, and other YWCA meetings as assigned.
  • Maintain familiarity with YWCA goals, mission and programs.
