About The Position

Goddard Riverside's Resource Center program, located in Central Harlem, assists low-income individuals and families in accessing and receiving entitlements, benefits, and resources. The program offers services such as benefits screening, financial counseling, legal consultation, and referrals to community and city-wide support services. The position involves engaging individuals and families through outreach, screening them, and assisting them in applying for and enrolling in various government benefits, as well as making necessary referrals to other support services.

Requirements

  • High school diploma required.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish required.
  • Experience working with low-income populations.
  • Knowledge of government benefits.
  • Ability to multi-task & work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Team player.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs, especially Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Able to use or learn electronic databases such as Single Stop.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct benefit screenings for low-income individuals and families.
  • Assist clients in applying for benefits from local, state, and federal agencies.
  • Interview clients to assess social service needs and make appropriate referrals, including to in-house services, legal clinics, financial counseling, educational/workforce development, and other resources.
  • Serve as an advocate for and liaison between clients and community organizations and/or government agencies.
  • Assist clients seeking new housing opportunities by helping them complete housing applications and referring them to appropriate agencies and organizations.
  • Help clients maintain their housing through assistance programs and eviction prevention measures.
  • Maintain detailed case notes.
  • Track and report on outcomes for services rendered.
  • Assist with collecting and inputting all necessary data and provide information for weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual reports.
  • Collaborate with the Program Coordinator on outreach efforts to engage tenants.
  • Support the coordination of on- and off-site activities, visits, and workshops for residents, including scheduling, securing space, transportation, and food.
  • Support the organization of events and capacity-building activities to foster community building within the MNVL complex.
  • Represent the MNVL Resource Center at tabling events, Community Board meetings, events hosted by elected officials, and local CBO activities.
  • Assist with special projects as needed.
  • Attend staff meetings, community meetings, case conferences, training programs, and supervision meetings.
  • Participate in program evaluation and improvement.
  • Work collaboratively as a member of an active team and respond with flexibility to a fluid and evolving program environment.
  • Assist in maintaining program office space and assist clients visiting the office.
  • Collaborate with the Resource Center Team on marketing efforts to engage tenants.
