About The Position

Veterinary Purchasing Company Ltd. is the largest veterinary-owned distribution company in Canada. For more than 50 years, our mission has been to support independent veterinary practices by providing an efficient, transparent supply model, designed to meet their needs. As part of our continued growth in Québec, we are currently looking for a Bilingual Business Development Lead for the Québec region to support and build relationships with veterinary practices across the territory. The Bilingual Business Development Lead is a senior, strategic growth role responsible for shaping and executing VP’s business development strategy. This position plays a critical role in expanding member base, strengthening market presence, increasing shareholders, and building scalable account management frameworks that support long-term organizational objectives. Primary responsibility of the role is for growth across Quebec Canada, in collaboration with the Atlantic market. Operating at both a strategic and executional level, the Bilingual Business Development Lead identifies market opportunities, sets territory and pipeline strategy, and drives high-value member acquisition through consultative engagement. The role partners closely with Senior Leadership, Marketing, and Member Services to align growth initiatives with corporate priorities and to prepare the foundation for future Member Services team expansion. This role is positioned as a development track opportunity, with increasing scope, strategic partnerships, and leadership as VPCL continues to grow. We are looking for someone familiar with the veterinary sector who enjoys building strong professional relationships.

Requirements

  • Ten (10) years of progressive experience in business development, sales leadership, or strategic growth roles
  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in relevant discipline
  • Excellent written/oral communication skills – English and French
  • Deep understanding of the veterinary industry, healthcare, or a closely related sector
  • Proven ability to design and execute growth strategies at a regional or national level
  • Strong, senior-level communication, presentation, and negotiation skills
  • Demonstrated success in consultative, relationship-based selling environments
  • Experience working cross-functionally with Marketing, Operations, and Member Services teams
  • High level of business acumen and comfort working with data, KPIs, and forecasts
  • Strong CRM proficiency and experience building scalable sales processes
  • Exceptional organization, prioritization, and strategic thinking skills
  • Willingness and ability to travel regularly and work flexible hours
  • This position requires the ability to communicate in both French and English.
  • Most interactions with veterinary practices in the territory will be conducted in French, while certain internal communications with VP’s national team are conducted in English.
  • The ideal candidate will therefore be comfortable working in both languages, although English is not required for the majority of daily interactions with members

  • Knowledge of Practice Information Management Software’s (PIMS) would be considered an asset

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the development and execution of VP’s business development strategy, in collaboration with the Director of Business Development and Member Services field team, with a particular focus on the Quebec market
  • Identify priority markets, regions, associations, and practice groups to drive sustainable expansion
  • Analyze industry trends, competitive landscape, and member data to inform strategic decisions
  • Translate company objectives into actionable business development plans and measurable outcomes
  • Provide strategic recommendations to senior leadership on growth opportunities and risks
  • Lead high-value, consultative sales efforts with prospective member practices
  • Own the full growth lifecycle for new members, from initial engagement through hand-off to the Member Services team for onboarding, and subsequent retention strategies
  • Drive consistent achievement of new members, shareholders and revenue targets
  • Establish and maintain a disciplined, data-driven sales pipeline and forecasting process
  • Negotiate purchasing agreements within approved frameworks and processes
  • Build and maintain senior-level relationships with veterinary practice owners, influencers, corporate groups, and industry stakeholders
  • Act as a trusted advisor to prospective and existing members, positioning VP as a long-term strategic partner
  • Identify and support strategic partnerships that enhance VP’s value proposition
  • Represent VP at key industry events, conferences, and leadership forums
  • Collaborate with Marketing to shape go-to-market strategy, lead generation, and messaging
  • Provide field insights to inform program development, pricing strategy, and vendor initiatives
  • Establish and track KPIs related to growth performance, pipeline health, and market penetration
  • Act as a senior leader within the growth function, modeling consultative and values-based engagement
  • Support the development of future business development and member services roles, processes, and training frameworks
  • Mentor junior team members and cross-functional partners as the business scales
  • Works in compliance with Health & Safety legislation and follows VP’s policies and procedures
  • Conducts self with regard for the safety of all employees
  • Participates in health and safety training, meetings, and drills as required; is aware of safety and evacuation procedures
  • Reports any health & safety violations or hazards to appropriate contacts (JHSC Representatives, Supervisors, Managers)
  • Follows and understands all relevant Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) with respect to Good Manufacturing Practices
