About The Position

The Behavioral Health Counselor offers integrated mental health & substance abuse services that include individual, group, and family therapy, clinical case management, intakes/assessments, clinical evaluations, crisis intervention and consultation services in identified SFUSD high school Wellness Centers. The Wellness Centers are a joint project between RAMS, SFDPH and SFUSD.

Requirements

  • MS/MA in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or related field, from an accredited institution.
  • BBS or Board of Psychology registration or licensure (AMFT/LMFT, ACSW/LCSW, LPCC, Psychologist).
  • Bilingual English/Spanish required.
  • One year of work experience providing on-site mental health & substance abuse services to youth/teens in high-school-based settings.
  • One year of work experience providing mental health & substance abuse treatment services, in a community mental health setting.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with SF community behavioral health systems of care & delivery of clinical services, highly preferred.
  • Knowledge of SF community resources for health, mental health, substance abuse, vocational, and housing services, highly preferred.
  • Strong commitment to the RAMS’ mission of providing community-based, culturally competent, and consumer-guided mental health/substance abuse treatment and prevention services to underserved populations.
  • Commitment to engaging in professional development and reviewing current literature relevant to treatment practices for the target population.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to interface professionally with a diverse, multi-cultural, and interdisciplinary staff at all levels.

Responsibilities

  • Provide culturally competent school-based mental health & substance abuse counseling services to individuals, groups, and families on a short/long term basis at identified SFUSD high school Wellness Centers.
  • Conduct clinical intakes, assessments, and evaluations; provide case management and consultation, primarily at school sites.
  • Provide outreach & education on mental health and substance abuse services and issues to students, families of students, community members, other professionals, school staff, and in community settings as necessary.
  • Develop and maintain administrative and client care treatment in accordance with professional & funding source standards and RAMS’ policies.
  • Provide clinical training and education to staff, trainees, and interns as deemed necessary.
  • Participate in RAMS internal and/or external trainings as required by the position or agency.
  • Represent RAMS as the behavioral health professional of the Wellness Center core team; collaborate closely with all Wellness team members.
  • Participate in SAP/SST meetings, as requested.
  • Participate in Wellness Center team clinical meetings.
  • Attend administrative team meetings at RAMS clinic site.
  • Provide crisis intervention, assessments, and triage of students.
  • Provide consultation, in-service training to school staff, as needed.
  • Provide group intervention: subject, frequency, and number of students to be determined by the Wellness Centers team.
  • Coordinate with School Health Program staff to provide direct clinical services to student.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
