About The Position
Shasta Head Start is seeking a Bilingual Aide to share language skills with children and families. Under the direct supervision of the classroom Teacher, the Bilingual Aide assists children, families, and staff by providing bilingual learning opportunities for children with limited English proficiency. The role also facilitates verbal and written communication between home and school. The position is part-time and located at the Anderson Center in Anderson, California. It is an experienced-level role with a high school education level listed and a pay rate of $17.52 per hour. The shift is day shift.
Requirements
- Ability to write reports and correspondence and to read and interpret documents in English and in the family’s primary language.
- Ability to speak effectively to groups of children, parents, staff, and community members in English and in the family’s primary language.
- Valid California driver’s license and clean DMV record.
- Must pass a criminal background check.
- Must complete a pre-employment strength assessment.
- Must complete a pre-employment TB test.
- Must have up-to-date records of pertussis, measles, and influenza vaccines.
Responsibilities
- Partner with classroom teachers to support learning and development by interpreting for children with limited English proficiency as needed.
- Assist staff in recruiting and enrolling families with limited English proficiency.
- Assist social service staff with communication by interpreting for families at meetings, conferences, and other occasions as needed.
- Help center staff translate basic written information for families as needed.
- Model appropriate behavior and interact positively, warmly, and courteously with children and families to build responsive relationships.
- Assist with child screenings and assessments by interpreting information as needed.
- Support special events or activities for families with limited English proficiency.
