About The Position

MEC is seeking a Bike Mechanic to join their team. This role involves assembling, maintaining, and repairing bicycles according to MEC's guidelines, while also mentoring frontline staff on repair processes and adhering to sustainability principles. In the winter, mechanics will assist in the ski shop with binding and ski repair. The position also involves customer interaction, providing gear advice, organizing inventory, and sharing product knowledge. The ideal candidate will have a passion for helping people of all skill levels find the right products and contribute to the outdoor community MEC fosters.

Requirements

  • Minimum 1 year of work experience as a Bicycle Mechanic in a bicycle shop.
  • Availability as per MEC availability guideline based on status.
  • Demonstrate fluency in parts terminology, service techniques, and parts compatibility.
  • Demonstrate the ability to build a bicycle in the hiring process.
  • Proficient computer skills utilizing D365 systems.

Responsibilities

  • Assembles, maintains, and repairs bicycles within MEC's productivity, quality, and safety guidelines.
  • Mentors and trains frontline staff about bike repair processes and procedures.
  • Performs repairs with MEC sustainability principles in mind.
  • Installs, adjusts, and repairs ski bindings and skis during the winter season.
  • Assists members in selecting gear and provides industry-leading advice.
  • Organizes inventory and ensures members receive needed products.
  • Engages with members about products, offering in-depth knowledge and personal recommendations.
  • Helps members of all skill levels find the right product.
  • Provides member service according to SERVE standard, in shop/sales floor as required.
  • Keeps the working space organized, safe, clean, and efficient.
  • Completes basic repairs including wheel truing, internal cable routing, drive train adjustment, bottom bracket and headset selection and installation.
  • Installs and maintains all parts related to the proper function of a bicycle.
  • Installs and maintains bike-related accessories such as fenders and racks.
  • Supports in diagnosing issues related to bicycle function and suggests solutions.
  • Ensures final inspection and quality assurance of new and repaired bikes meets or exceeds MEC standards.
  • Fulfills necessary documentation and performs other administrative duties.
  • Sources parts as per MEC standards for work orders.
  • Manages inventory and performs data entry.
  • Tracks hours worked within each function of the bike shop.
  • Maintains MEC specified productivity standards.
  • Adheres to all loss prevention policies and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned based on business needs.
