About The Position

Vantor is seeking a Big Data Analyst to join their team. This role will be performed at the Vantor facility in Herndon, Virginia, and the customer site in Springfield, VA. The analyst will closely support mission partners, with their work having a direct impact on mission imperatives. The role involves close collaboration with software developers, ETL engineers, Big Data SMEs, and infrastructure and cybersecurity teams, leveraging open-source tools to create and maintain a diverse range of applications. The team is a multi-faceted software development and systems administration group focused on building and maintaining software applications supported by a self-managed cloud infrastructure with a significant big-data footprint (over 20 petabytes). Their approach emphasizes prototyping and frequent, iterative feedback to solve challenging intelligence problems for special operations analysts.

Requirements

  • Must have a current/active TS/SCI and be willing and able to obtain a CI polygraph.
  • Bachelors degree in a relevant field (equivalent years of experience may be substituted).
  • At least 5 years of experience as a data analyst, data scientist or similar.
  • Experience formulating a repeatable process for data evaluations and communicating findings to government officials.
  • In-depth knowledge of technical data types based on previous research and work with data sets of interest (Technical Telemetry Data, telecommunication protocol data types including cellular and wi-fi).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be a self-starter with excellent time-management skills and the ability to independently manage multiple concurrent tasks.
  • Must be experienced working in fast-paced environments.
  • Experience working with Software Engineers to provide feedback and validate the technical implementation for custom applications.
  • Experience working with a scripting language like Python, SQL, Spark, PySpark or similar.
  • Must be able to work on-site in Herndon, VA, with the ability to work in Springfield, VA as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to translate technical conclusions and present them to a broader audience.
  • Experience conducting geospatial analysis including Activity-Based Intelligence or Pattern of Life analysis.
  • Experience applying, improving, and documenting innovative analytic methodologies and ensuring they remain up to date.
  • Experience with Elasticsearch/Kibana.
  • Experience in a customer facing role.
  • Familiarity with Gitlab and the Software Development Lifecycle.
  • Experience working with Jupyter Notebooks or Apache Zepplin.
  • Experience working with other intel analysts and/or special operations customers.

Responsibilities

  • Performing and developing dataset evaluations and assessments to inform government decision making.
  • Shaping data engineering approaches for analytic tradecraft improvements within applications.
  • Identifying and documenting gaps within the data corpus and analytical capabilities.
  • Working with software developers to field requirements and provide feedback on implemented changes.
  • Providing SME support to end-users for various data or application questions and requests.
