About The Position

The BHS Employment Specialist reflects Northwestern Medicine’s mission, vision, and values; follows its Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program; and complies with relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and regulatory and accreditation standards. As a member of a multidisciplinary team, the specialist assists with patient assessments and treatment as directed. Under supervision, the role provides supportive employment services to people with mental illness who are interested in obtaining competitive community employment. The specialist conducts vocational assessments, supports job development, and provides follow-along services, while coordinating with local and state-operated facilities such as DRS and DHS to help clients obtain employment.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree.
• At hire and annually, employees must have a valid State of Illinois driver’s license, current auto liability insurance, and an annual driving abstract.

Nice To Haves

• One year of experience interacting with clients in an outpatient setting.
• Knowledge of the IPS program.
• Advanced verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide services based on the 8 principles of IPS.
• Collect and report social history for assigned cases.
• Intervene in, stabilize, and manage acute crisis situations.
• Assess and evaluate client needs, strengths, goals, and resources.
• Submit timely documentation.
• Develop individual plans with clients using available assessment tools.
• Work with an interdisciplinary team to review cases and develop individual plans.
• Implement individual plans through rehabilitation services, including case management, advocacy, outreach, skills training groups, social rehabilitation, community support, and counseling.
• Provide linkage case management and participate in treatment planning and discharge planning.
• Consult with center staff regarding problem assessment and treatment or intervention planning.
• Consult with other service agencies about case-specific and programmatic issues.
• Serve as a liaison to other agencies as needed, such as DRS and DHS.
• Train other providers and non-providers in areas related to service specialties.
• Complete vocational assessments.
• Provide job development training and follow-along support, including help with resumes, contacting employers, and interview skills.
• Engage in employer contacts in the community.
