Uniquely positioned at the intersection of technology, data science, and healthcare, Verily transforms multimodal health data into insights, models, and actions that make healthcare more personalized, predictive, and precise. As a Benefits & Payroll Specialist, you will be a primary point of contact for Canadian employees, serving as the subject matter expert for all benefits and payroll-related matters. This role focuses on high-touch employee support—managing inquiries across payroll and benefits—while maintaining operational excellence. You will work closely with our Canadian HR Generalist to manage frontline cases, process benefits and payroll transactions, and partner with internal teams and vendors to ensure our Canadian operations remain compliant, efficient, and employee-centric.

Requirements

  • 3+ years in HR operations, with a strong focus on Canadian payroll and benefits administration.
  • 2+ years working within a centralized HR Help Desk or Shared Services environment, successfully managing high-volume ticketing queues (e.g., ServiceNow, Zendesk, Workday Help).
  • Direct experience and working knowledge of CPP/QPP, EI, ROE requirements, and provincial Employment Standards Acts (ESA).
  • Proven track record of meeting or exceeding Service Level Agreements (SLAs) in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated "measure twice, cut once" approach to managing payroll and benefits data changes to ensure 100% operational accuracy.
  • Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to work in Canada.
  • Verily is currently unable to offer employment-based visa or work permit sponsorship for this position.

Nice To Haves

  • 2+ years of experience with modern HRIS and Canadian payroll/benefits systems (specifically Celergo, Desjardins, Manulife, Workday, or ADP).
  • PCP (Payroll Compliance Professional) or PLP (Payroll Leadership Professional) designation.
  • Proven ability to translate complex technical "legalese" or regulatory jargon into warm, empathetic, and employee-friendly "plainspeak."
  • A proactive mindset with a demonstrated ability to identify patterns in employee inquiries and suggest continuous improvements to documentation or processes.
  • A team-first attitude with experience working seamlessly alongside HR Generalists and cross-functional teams to ensure optimal employee case routing.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a high-volume Canadian benefits and payroll help desk queue, delivering accurate, timely resolutions to employee inquiries within established SLAs.
  • Administer benefits enrollments, status changes, and unenrollments while partnering with Leave Managers and HRBPs to coordinate integrated responses regarding pay and benefit impacts.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for benefits carriers and government agencies (CRA, Revenu Québec, Service Canada) to precisely handle ROEs, garnishments, and compliance inquiries.
  • Ensure alignment with HR policies and Canadian employment standards (ESA) while translating complex regulatory and plan documents into clear, employee-facing communications.
  • Monitor personal and team case volumes to maintain high service standards, actively identifying recurring themes and trends to brief Operations and Program Managers.
