About The Position

The Benefits Manager is accountable for the governance, administration, and continuous improvement of benefit programs across all impact investments and operating entities. This role ensures regulatory compliance, financial integrity, operational excellence, and a consistent, high-quality associate experience, regardless of entity, business line, or workforce structure. This position goes beyond transactional administration to proactively manage risk, strengthen internal controls, and drive measurable return on investment through disciplined benefits reconciliation, informed plan design, and intentional associate engagement. The Benefits Manager serves as a subject matter expert and enterprise point of accountability for benefits, ensuring alignment, consistency, and scalability across a diverse portfolio of impact investments. Partnering closely with Finance, Payroll, and People & Culture leaders, the Benefits Manager safeguards plan funding, maintains audit readiness, and continuously evolves processes, systems, and documentation to support growth, compliance, and long-term sustainability. The role plays a critical part in translating benefits strategy into effective enterprise-level execution—driving associate understanding, participation, and behavior that supports both well-being outcomes and organizational cost objectives across all impact investments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in human resource management or related field, and three to five years of related benefits or employee benefits administration experience.
  • SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP
  • Exceptional analytical capability with the ability to interpret complex benefits data and cost models.
  • Deep understanding of benefit plan design, funding mechanisms, and contract language.
  • Proven ability to evaluate vendor proposals and manage RFP processes.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the day to day administration of all benefit programs, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short and long term disability, FSA, retirement plans, travel and accident coverage, and related offerings.
  • Research, evaluate, and recommend benefit plan designs and vendors that balance associate value, competitive positioning, compliance, and financial sustainability.
  • Analyze benefit usage, cost trends, plan performance, and market benchmarks to inform short and long term benefits strategy.
  • Lead annual renewals and new program implementations, including cost modeling and executive recommendations.
  • Proactively monitor, interpret, and anticipate changes in federal and state benefits regulations (including ACA, ERISA, COBRA, FMLA, ADA, Section 125, Medicare, and DOL requirements), assessing organizational impact and driving timely implementation to ensure ongoing compliance.
  • Lead compliance governance through advance planning, risk identification, and readiness activities related to audits, compliance testing, actuarial data preparation, and regulatory reporting (e.g., Forms 5500).
  • Own and continuously enhance plan documentation, SOPs and policies, summary plan descriptions, and administrative procedures to reflect regulatory updates, operational improvements, and evolving business needs.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for associates, benefit vendors, brokers, and third party administrators.
  • Oversee enrollments, life events, terminations, COBRA, beneficiaries, disability and leave coordination, claims, QMCSOs, and related transactions.
  • Ensure the integrity of benefit data across platforms to maintain accurate benefit records and ensure payroll deductions and system feeds remain aligned.
  • Own and continuously enhance the benefits reconciliation process, ensuring premiums, invoices, and associate deductions are accurate, timely, and fully reconciled.
  • Establish and maintain strong internal controls around benefits funding, billing, and deductions across all entities.
  • Partner with Finance and Accounting to support accurate forecasting, budget management, and reconciliation of benefit expenses.
  • Monitor administrative costs and recommend cost containment and funding strategies.
  • Own the strategy and execution of benefits communications and education to drive informed decision making, increased plan utilization, and measurable return on investment.
  • Design and deliver targeted, data driven benefits communications, onboarding materials, open enrollment campaigns, and education tools that improve associate understanding, participation, and satisfaction.
  • Lead benefit education sessions and training for People & Culture partners, managers, and field associates, equipping leaders to actively reinforce benefit value and appropriate plan usage.
  • Actively evaluate engagement outcomes (e.g., participation rates, plan selection behavior, claims trends, and feedback) and refine communication strategies to optimize plan effectiveness, cost efficiency, and associate experience.
  • Serve as a visible advocate for the Company’s benefits offerings, driving clarity, transparency, and engagement that aligns associate behavior with both well being and organizational cost objectives.
  • Own the continuous improvement of benefits administration, compliance, reconciliation, and associate experience by systematically identifying process gaps, inefficiencies, and risk areas.
  • Lead the evaluation, redesign, and implementation of scalable, technology enabled solutions including AI that improve accuracy, reduce manual work, strengthen internal controls, and enhance service delivery.
  • Apply data, metrics, and root cause analysis to drive informed decisions that improve plan performance, cost efficiency, and associate outcomes.
  • Establish and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs), controls, and documentation that promote consistency, audit readiness, and operational resilience.
