The New York City Department of Correction has an opening in its Employee Services Unit for an experienced Benefits and Leave of Absence Coordinator. Reporting to the Unit Supervisors and Deputy Director, the selected candidate will have the autonomy to exercise independent judgment and initiative. The key responsibilities of this position include assessing, reviewing, and completing work related to employee benefits administration, including service and disability retirements, health benefits, the deferred compensation plan, management benefits fund, union benefits, pension enrollments, and Social Security administration. Additionally, the role involves assessing, reviewing, and completing work related to employees’ leaves of absence, handling requests for FMLA, PPL, PFL, Medical Leave, Personal Leave of Absence, and Workers' Compensation leave, and conducting leave and time balance audits. The coordinator will also oversee and conduct retirement consultations, prepare written correspondence, research information, and provide technical assistance. A significant part of the role includes coordinating the employee benefits "roadshow" training for agency staff, overseeing program planning and development, preparing training materials, and conducting presentations. The coordinator will also maintain communication with relevant agencies, collaborate with various personnel and divisions, and develop statistical reports on leaves of absence and retirement. Finally, the role involves analyzing reports on "missing in action" or "absent without leave" employees to provide HR management with production indicators.
