About The Position

The Department of Economic Security (DES) is seeking individuals committed to service, community, and teamwork to join their team. DES strengthens individuals, families, and communities for a better quality of life. This customer service career opportunity involves determining eligibility for Arizonans in need of Nutrition Assistance, Medical Assistance, and/or Temporary Assistance to Needy Families. The ideal candidate is highly motivated, possesses decision-making skills, can work independently and multi-task in a fast-paced call center, and can provide quality interaction and communication with clients. This position may offer the ability to work remotely within Arizona, based on business needs and performance.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of customer service practices.
  • Proficiency in computer navigation of various software applications, including Google Suite or Microsoft.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Customer-friendly, empathetic, and patient demeanor.
  • Computer experience including typing, navigating, and using multiple computer systems on multiple screens while talking to clients.
  • Core math skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  • Ability to evaluate and make appropriate decisions or determinations.
  • Ability to access, maintain, review, and interpret information.
  • Ability to work independently as well as interact with others on a team.
  • Ability to review and explain eligibility requirements with applicants of diverse backgrounds and guide them to resources.
  • A High School Diploma or GED.
  • Successfully pass background and reference checks.
  • Successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify).

Nice To Haves

  • One (1) year of experience performing eligibility reviews.
  • One (1) year of customer service experience.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting individuals and families by phone in a call center environment.
  • Providing excellent customer service to individuals and families facing challenging situations.
  • Collecting and gathering information to conduct interviews for eligibility determinations for Medical Assistance, Nutrition Assistance, and Cash Assistance.
  • Completing the application and interview process by entering data on a computer and accessing multiple screens while on the phone with clients.
  • Adhering to agency standards in a high-volume call center, measured by metrics, attendance, service levels, accuracy, and timeliness.
